By prohibiting smoking at work, less risk of premature delivery and low birth weight

A study conducted in Dublin ensures that following the ban on smoking in the workplace in Ireland since 2004, tobacco addiction in pregnant women was reduced and therefore, derived complications such as premature births and low birth weight.

Not smoking several hours a day obviously reduces the amount of tobacco consumed and in some cases this motivates future moms to decide to quit during pregnancy.

A year after the ban, the rate of future moms who smoked fell by 12% while a 25% lower risk of having a preterm birth was observed.

Low birth weight is strongly related to tobacco, there are several studies that ensure it. It is believed that if pregnant women stopped smoking, the number of babies born with low weight would be reduced by half.

According to the same Irish study, by prohibiting tobacco in the workplace, 43% were also observed less risk of having a low weight baby. Babies who were born with more weight were children of former smokers, while those with lower weight were children of women who had smoked during pregnancy.

It is not new that tobacco, along with so many other things, is harmful to the baby in gestation. The funny thing is that it only depends on the decision and willpower of the mother. If at least consumption is reduced by avoiding working hours, there will be fewer risks for the baby. But much better if you take advantage to leave it definitely.
