We often talk about bars, restaurants and other establishments that with very little success urge women who breastfeed to go to the toilet to feed their babies, cover themselves or leave the premises. We talk about them because of how unfair it seems to us to do something like that and trying to show that it is normal for a change to occur and that something like that is not repeated.
What we did not expect is that the establishments will join the cause to the point of not only normalizing it, but protecting it, thanks to an initiative in their posters where they say: "If you need to breastfeed your baby, enter without asking permission that we invite you to something".
It all started in Chile
The idea came up on January 21 on the Facebook page "Moms loving chaos"The administrators, two moms from Guatemala, decided to propose this initiative based on something they had seen in Chile.
To boost it, they sent an invitation to 15 large establishments, of which they did not receive a response. Apparently, other smaller businesses echoed the call and, by their own decision, accepted it.
First it was a restaurant, which encouraged nursing mothers to enter if they needed to breastfeed, inviting them to tea. Then a coffee, another restaurant and So up to eight establishments that offer natural soft drinks, tea or a cup of chocolate.
Soon in more countries
The most striking thing is that the initiative is beginning to cross borders. Apparently, some establishments in Costa Rica have already joined the cause and there are already people interested in Atlanta and Texas, in the US, who have contacted the promoters to learn more about the initiative.
Actually, it's not necessary either
What we aspire to parents who have had children breastfeeding is to live in a place where no one criticizes you for breastfeeding, or where a baby can be fed regardless of where it is. Come on, nobody can tell you that you are in an inappropriate place to do it.
That is enough and left over. It is enough that a mother can enter any bar or restaurant and can breastfeed if her baby asks for it without anyone telling her to cover herself or to do it elsewhere.
But that does not mean that this initiative is great, not only for mothers who can enter following the invitation, but especially for all the people who, walking down the street, will read the poster and you will see that breastfeeding does not have to be an exclusive act.
Come on, what is it? an excellent idea because to reach the former, so that we can all live in a world where a woman can breastfeed without hesitation, we must probably go through the latter, through initiatives such as these, which help to normalize breastfeeding in public.
