The summer accidents

The Spanish Association of Primary Care Pediatrics released an alarming figure.

A thousand children under one year die a year in accidents such as falls, drowning, burns and suffocation.

Summer is a very prone time for this kind of fatalities to happen, so parents should exercise caution in the sun, in the pools and not take their eyes off them.

Another fact that scares: only injuries cause more deaths in Spanish children than cancer, birth defects, pneumonia, meningitis and heart disease, together.

Pools are places where serious accidents can occur. A slip on the edge of the pool or a bad fall into the water can cause from a simple cut to fatal injuries that could even cause paralysis or death. Not to mention drowning. Most could be avoided if the parents extreme vigilance. Even if there is a lifeguard in the pool, parents cannot trust us and leave the children exclusively under their supervision, even if they have sleeves or floats.

Of course, always wear high sun protection, a hat, avoid the hottest daylight hours, give them plenty of fluids and refresh them frequently.

In addition, sunstroke, insect bites, heat stroke, dehydration and poisoning are the star accidents of the summer period, which with simple measures can be avoided.
