Treating children with pneumonia at home is an effective measure as indicated by WHO

According to the WHO (World Health Organization), a child suffering from pneumonia can effectively receive treatment at homeThis will allow many children in developing countries to save themselves without going to a hospital.

Experts from WHO and the United States have corroborated this fact by finding in Pakistan that children suffering from severe pneumonia could be treated at home by oral antibiotics, obtaining the same results as if they were in a hospital treated with another type of medication .

Keep in mind that pneumonia is one of the diseases with the highest incidence in children under five years of age and many of these children cannot go to the hospital for various reasons, whether economic, distance, etc. The solution involves treatment at home, experts have certified success through a study in which about 2,000 children suffering from severe pneumonia were treated.

Some children were treated in the hospital and others in their homes with oral medication, interestingly, the children treated at home exceeded the disease in a slightly more effective way, with the hospital mortality rate being 8.6% and 7.5% at home. Data from this study have been published in the electronic scientific journal The Lancet.

It is necessary to find effective solutions to be able to treat children and more when their families do not have resources, the new solution proposed by the WHO sure will save many children.
