Avoid risks in children's sports

We have already seen the 2008 children's activity pyramid where we were suggested sports and physical routines for children to practice, because we are currently experiencing an excess of sedentary lifestyle and screen consumption: TV, computers, etc.

But when they play sports, we cannot relax completely, but we must pay attention to safety with the use of helmet for the bicycle, skates or rollers, and of knee pads, elbow pads and other protections.

Recently, the US Product Safety Commission has made public the accident figures for 2006 related to the practice of some of these sports in children under 15 years of age and are as follows:

  • 240,000 accidents related to bikes
  • 221,000 accidents for playing football
  • 85,000 for baseball
  • 65,000 accidents related to skateboarding
  • 37,500 with the use of scooters

Although they are American data, we can also extrapolate them here and simply be aware that always be protected to prevent injuries in case of falls.

The truth is that my son is so reckless when he goes with his tricycle, although he is only 2 and a half years old, that instead of a helmet (which he still does not use) they would sell a full padded diver, such as Michelín's doll, I know I would buy it.
