Fun crafts: a hydraulic wheel

This new proposal of a hydraulic wheel within our fun crafts It is also a scientific experiment that serves to learn, in a playful way, about energy and its use. Children from four years can enjoy a lot doing it and then discovering its properties.

You need a spool of finished thread, a drinking straw or a pencil, a few pieces of cardboard, acrylic paint, glue and scissors. And of course, a tap with water to spin it. The force of the water will cause the vanes of our little ferris wheel to move, reproducing the operation of one of the simplest but most used machines throughout the centuries.

The most curious children will surely ask about the operation of this simple machine and you can, then, explain uses that this idea has had, such as moving mills to crush the grain. Therefore, in addition to being an arts and crafts exercise, it will allow you, always adapting the explanations to the child's curiosity and ability, to learn in a fun and experiential way about science.

On the reel we will glue the pieces of cardboard forming blades. Then we will paint it with acrylic and let it dry, so that the paint then protects the cardboard from water. When it is finished we will put a straw or pencil in the hole of the reel and putting it under the jet of the tap, we will see how the force of the water when falling, makes it move quickly.

I hope you enjoy this Hydraulic wheel made as a craft and that your children enjoy participating in the whole process.
