"Sports" parents, sports children

That parents are the mirror in which they like to look at our children is something known. They day by day surprise us by imitating our gestures, our words, our behaviors.

Therefore if parents adopt a sporting lifestyle we have a good chance of them playing sports and benefit from all that physical activity brings us.

What characteristics should a "sporty" father gather? Well, not exactly buy them the costume of our favorite football team as soon as they were born, shout out of focus in their matches or aim them forcibly to the classes because we always dream that we would be great tennis players.

Exercise with children, encourage them to do so as a complement to their physical and social development, sportsmanship, respect ... are some of the important notions that the Ministry of Education reminds us:

  • It supports and encourages the sport practice understood as a comprehensive training process that fosters social relationship and group integration.
  • It takes into account the sports interests of the child and not theirs.
  • Knows how to distinguish between danger and overprotection.
  • Practice whenever you can physical activity with your children.
  • Respect the decisions of the coach and referees, teaching their children that the game also has rules that must be taken into account to have a good time.
  • They make their children see that the purpose of school sports is recreation and socialization, above sports results.
  • Teach to win with humility.
  • Teach to lose with sportsmanship.
  • Discriminates disrespect for peers, rivals, coaches or referees.
  • It promotes sportsmanship and nonviolence.

And what advantages can it bring to our children to maintain that sporting attitude? Thanks to physical activity, the boy or girl can make friends, stay fit, acquire responsibility and other healthy habits:

  • Enter society by understanding its rules and regulations.
  • Overcome shyness.
  • Control nerve impulses.
  • It promotes collaboration and not individualization.
  • Recognize and respect your coaches, referees, teammates and opponents.
  • Corrects physical defects or pathologies.
  • Stimulates hygiene and health.
  • It promotes healthy lifestyle habits.
  • It promotes the acquisition of responsibility.
  • Develop motor intelligence, body proportions and proprioceptive intelligence.
  • It promotes solidarity and team feeling.
  • The sporting habit is built day by day, and as important is the educator as the educator, and in this task, educators (each in his role) are all.

Surely most of these points could be achieved in another way (except perhaps physical and motor development, which is also possible with games, in its borderline mode with sport). But there is no doubt that physical exercise in the form of sport can be the most complete, entertaining and stimulating.

As we see it is about favor the development in our children thanks to the many benefits that sports practice brings. And all this is achieved starting by being ourselves "sporty" parents, who support them and practice the exercise whenever possible.
