Interactive map of the food marketing policy for children

One of the issues that influence what we eat as a family, what our children eat and drink, is what the market (and advertising) offers them. The International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO) offers an interactive map of the marketing policy for children all over the world.

Using this map to know the status of the international policy in the marketing of food and beverages for the children

The countries for which data is available are shown in orange. Hovering over these countries we can see a summary of the policy, and clicking on the country we find its information icon. Clicking on the icon will display a full policy report on the page (in English).

For example, we find data on the marketing of children's products, the restrictions and codes that regulate their sale, if there are laws in this regard and what year they are, the penalties if manufacturers or advertisers violate the rules, future actions planned for regulation ...

It is surprising to see that, among the countries with data, Spain is one of those with a larger report, with data from PAOS, Self-control ... which indicates a fairly strict regulation (although not always complied with) and some concern about this issue.

Recall that in Spain, recently, within the framework of the Strategy for Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention (NAOS), the Food Safety Law has been approved, although the involvement of the whole society is needed, and especially the families, so that the worrying data of obesity descend.

This interactive map of the international food marketing policy for children It is an interesting informative resource to see how the issue is regulated (or not) in countries where obesity is a problem.
