How to give breast milk to babies

A few days ago we showed you a video in which some babies were fed breast milk in a glass, a technique that is used in the "Amigos del Niño Hospitals" in Brazil for many years, with total success, even in premature babies.

The maternal and child dentistry specialist Manuella Surette left a record on our Facebook page, as you will remember we had the opportunity to interview a few weeks ago. Being a technique that does not interfere with breastfeeding, it is ideal for babies who will end up breastfeeding.

Remember that, in this sense, the use of the bottle is discouraged, as well as syringes to give them milk (if the idea is that the baby ends up sucking). The pacifier can also interfere with breastfeeding.

Manuella Surette tells us that for what baby drink milk in glass properly and get to feed her it is important to know that it should not be spilled in the child's mouth with the cup. It is necessary to support the glass in the lower lip so that it is the baby who goes to look for food with the league.

You have to pour a small amount of milk into the glass, so that the amount that the child receives is better controlled and we prevent the liquid from spilling if you hit the glass with your hands. When the milk is finished, we fill the glass as many times as necessary.

You need to use sterilized cups to prevent the baby, so weak newborn (especially premature babies), can catch an infection. The baby must be well held in our arms, semi-incorporated, with the head held.

And although medical professionals tend to work in the hospital, we should learn to do it for that the baby continues to drink breast milk in a glass until we can initiate or restore breastfeeding directly from the breast.
