Let's play, a UNICEF project for children's right to play and sport

In these days of vacation many children and parents remember the pleasure of playing and playing sports together. But the game must be present at all times in the lives of children. That's why we like the initiative we are talking about today, "Let's play", to promote children's right to play.

"Vamos Jogar", "Let's play", is a mobilization and commitment initiative promoted by UNICEF and the Mayor's Office of Rio de Janeiro to promote the right to play, recreation and safe and inclusive sport for all children and adolescents in Latin America and the Caribbean.

And it is that we remember that the game is a right, the sport is a way of playing, always beneficial if it does not become a competition, is played dirty or comes to harm the health of the child.

The sporting events that will be held in Brazil (the Soccer World Cup this year and the Olympic Games in 2016) will attract a lot of media attention and will be a suitable scenario to claim the importance of the game for children and reflect on the presence of sport in the lives of children, as well as making visible the situation of the region to the world.

Playing for children is a form of pleasure, joy and learning, essential aspects for children's development. The game contributes to a balanced growth of the body, intelligence and social skills, enriching people.

In many countries of Latin America (and others in the rest of the world) the rates of child labor or child abuse are very high and are only an example of children who will grow up without playing, losing all the benefits that the game entails Without that joy and with added suffering.

That is why it seems important to me that, in this or other contexts, the right to children's play is claimed. The "Let's play" campaign It has the support of athletes and different organizations that, each in their own way, collaborate to promote respect for the right of children to leisure, play and recreation.
