Attention to finger paints: Consumption alert for its toxicity and many schools suspend its use

One of the funniest and most creative entertainments for children is under the spotlight because of their health risk. The Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (Aecosan) has issued in recent months several alerts regarding finger paints for children that exceed the maximum permitted levels of arsenic, cadmium and lead.

This has had consequences in the different communities, as in Asturias, where it has been decided to suspend the use of all kinds of hand paints in the schools of the Principality, or in Cantabria, with the same recommendation.

The alert has also been activated in the Valencian Community and the Generalitat has taken steps to verify that the paintings are not for sale in the Community.

It is, according to the list that can be consulted on the website of the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition, of products that exceed the permitted values of toxic substances such as arsenic, aluminum, cadmium, lead or have molds and yeasts that can be harmful.

The risk associated with children's use of these paints is poisoning and, in one case, infection (MOLIN brand). Some are well-known brands, such as the last to join this list, certain finger paint colors of Alpino Baby.
