80% of gifted children fail at school due to lack of support

Gifted children have an IQ (or IQ) greater than 130, learn with astonishing ease, They are able to do unthinkable things in children their age and get bored at school.

This could be the simple definition of a gifted child, however, the fact of being so does not imply just a difference in intelligence but many other things.

They are children different from most with a unique personality who see and live life differently from the rest. Their relationships with adults and children are affected by this and are often children poorly accepted for their difference.

Feeling different and receiving messages from the environment that confirm it creates insecurity in these children who are at special risk of having low self-esteem and eventually developing behavioral problems. It is important for these children that a early assessment to know if they have high capacities and if so offer strategies and tools to help them. Otherwise they have many numbers to end up failing at school.

The association ACREAST (Crevillentina Association of Aid for the Gifted and Talented) has been fighting for eight years so that children with greater intellectual abilities receive specialized attention in ordinary schools, as is the case with students with disabilities.

"My daughter is bored in class. She is seven years old and entered dividing the school"explained Gema Escolano, secretary of this provincial organization and mother of María, a girl to whom "Now they are teaching him to add and subtract with two figures in his class."

This association of the Valencian Community denounces, through its president José Llopis, that "In 2002 the Department of Education completed an exhaustive study that lasted four years on the reality of gifted children in the Community, about the psychological actions that were to be carried out, teacher training and adaptations of the plans of study to give way to his high mental endowment " and that everything was in a declaration of intent since it is not being executed.

This makes these children go to school with very little enthusiasm since they do not receive the necessary stimuli and this causes problems of behavior and integration with the system.

"80% of gifted children fail at school due to lack of support from the educational administration. It is in the early ages when you have to work with them because otherwise they are lost and their talent is not used ", the president of the association specified.
